*In this series I will take one player from each team to add to my All 32 Bust Team for 2021.*
WR Rashad Bateman
Don’t get me wrong I think Bateman is going to be a force in the NFL and emerge as the Ravens go to receiver early in his career. Bateman possesses all the traits needed to be that Alpha for this offense as he is fast, physical, able to generate yards after the catch, and one hell of a route runner. However, for year one I think fantasy owners in redraft leagues are going to be left underwhelmed with his production by seasons end. Though Bateman possesses the skillset to be Baltimore’s Alpha, I think he will take some time to supplant Sammy Watkins; yes, I giggled writing that because Bateman is far more talented, but Watkins is going to start the year opposite Marquise Brown and you know it.
Another factor to consider is the lack of receiving opportunity in a run heavy offense. I get it, the reports have suggested the Ravens want to be more balanced on offense and is why they overhauled the offensive line and receiving room. With that said even with an uptick in pass attempts per game I still only project Bateman to finish the season as the third man on the target totem pole beneath Mark Andrews and Hollywood Brown.
It’s only June and the hype for Bateman is getting louder and louder, and a rising ADP usually follows that hype. Currently Bateman is sitting with and ADP of 143.7 (WR55), which isn’t that bad of a price at first glance, but I have him projected as WR67 making him a prime bust candidate at this price tag already, and if the price continues to grow as expected, you best believe I’m not touching him in redraft. I would much rather target fellow rookie Elijah Moore of the New York Football Jets who is going half a round later at the current ADP. Again, for Dynasty Bateman is a great prospect, but for redraft, he just screams bust in year one due to expected draft day price tag, which may just lead to impatient dynasty owners bailing on him early, which if it does POUNCE!!
