With Austin Ekeler we know what he is at this point for fantasy and as an NFL runner, which is a pass catching/PPR monster. Ekeler possesses a skillset better suited for pass catching then as that traditional between the tackle runner/thumper. This could be the reason why the new coaching regime thought it necessary to land a between the tackle grinder such as Larry Rountree III in this years draft. I do fully believe Rountree will get ample opportunity to be that short yardage/early down back to help preserve the smaller framed Ekeler who missed six games last season due to injury. I believe this ultimately limits his upside/production as a runner in 2021.
Joe Lombardi comes in as this teams new OC, and brings with him that New Orleans style offense. With that we can expect Ekeler to be used as that Alvin Kamara pass catching weapon, which as I mentioned before is Ekeler's strong suit. Through four seasons as a pro Ekeler has more receiving yards (2,079) than rushing yards (1,901), but as a rusher does possess a nice 4.7 YPA average, which I see carrying over into 2021 with that revamped offensive line. However, as runner in 2021 my numbers have him coming in below these betting totals.
My Projection: 169 RA - 796YDS - 3.5 TD's
How to Bet
-UNDER- 6 Rushing TD (-130)
-UNDER- 825.5 Rush Yards (-120)
