Week 12 Upgrades/Downgrades

Daniel Jones @ Cincinnati: (Upgrade) Danny Jones started the 2020 season struggling mightily over the first six weeks as he ranked as the QB27 averaging 11.89 fantasy points per game. However, since then Jones has rebound nicely and has performed much better through weeks seven and ten. During this span Jones has ranked as the QB12 averaging 18.74 fantasy points per game. We like that success/rebound to continue this week when Jones and the Giants travel to Ohio to take on a Bengals team that is just suffering blow after blow with the loss of not only their starting RB Mixon, but now Rookie QB Joe Burrow to a devastating knee injury. The Bengals defense is allowing an average of 258.3 passing yards a game and two passing touchdowns per game. This defense is also allowing opposing quarterbacks to complete 62.8% of their passes. The Bengals are only giving up an average of 11.1 rush yards per game to quarterbacks, not because they are good at defending it, but because QBs just don’t have to because they can do damage through the air, so it may be a low rushing day for Jones.

Other Upgrades at QB:

Carson Wentz VS Seattle

Tua Tagovailoa @ New York Jets

Derek Carr @ Atlanta

Lamar Jackson @ Pittsburgh: (Downgrade) It has been a maddening season for the fantasy owners that took the leap of faith on the 2019 NFL MVP Lamar Jackson and drafted him in the first two rounds. He hasn’t been horrible, but he hasn’t been great either. This fall off is eerily similar to another quarterback from Greg Romans past, Colin Kaepernick. Luckily, for Jackson and the Ravens they have one of the easiest remaining schedules in 2020; however, week twelve will be anything but easy for Jackson and the Ravens as they travel to Pittsburgh. This will be the second meeting between these two AFC North rivals. In the week eight contest, Lamar struggled to get going against this elite defense and finished the week as only the QB17 with 16.82 fantasy points. The Ravens will be down both Mark Ingram and J.K. Dobbins, the latter being the only back able to have success in that week eight contest, due to testing positive for Covid-19. You will have to start Lamar most likely, but brace yourself for a long night of pain and misery, which if we are being honest, is the two feelings we feel most often when watching this offense this year.

Other Downgrades at QB:

Ryan Tannehill @ Indianapolis

Drew Lock VS New Orleans

Aaron Rodgers VS Chicago

Dalvin Cook VS Carolina: (Upgrade) The current NFL leader in rush yards per game (118.8) gets one of the most generous fantasy matchups for fantasy backs this weekend in the Carolina Panthers. Don’t let their game against the Lions last week fool you into thinking this defense has transformed into a monster against the run because they haven’t, the Lions minus Swift is just terrible when it comes to the ground attack. Dalvin Cook isn’t the leading rusher currently, Derrick Henry is, in the NFL, but he is the guy leading the league in all-purpose yards with 1,303 yards, as well as the touchdown leader (14). Cook is set up for an absolute smash spot in week 12, especially if Thielen is unable to be cleared off the Covid/Reserve list and Zimmer decides to ride Cook and this dangerous backfield to a win.

Other Upgrades at RB:

D’Andre Swift VS Houston

Ronald Jones VS Kansas City

Colt’s RB’s VS Tennessee

Clyde Edwards-Helaire @ Tampa Bay: (Downgrade) The rookie had a nice showing against the division rival Raiders last week as he found the end zone twice. The Raiders are a favorable matchup for fantasy running backs, where the Tampa Bay Bucs are anything but. If Monday’s contest told us anything it is this Tampa run defense is nasty as advertised, as it limited all three Rams backs to under 57 combined rushing/receiving yards. Now a lot of that success against the run was largely in part because McVay and the Rams utilized the wide receivers and tight ends a large amount knowing that is how you beat the Bucs. We foresee Andy Reid game planning similar to McVay in that aspect, which means CEH, may take a backseat in this tough matchup.

Other Downgrades at RB:

49er’s RB’s @ LA Rams

Melvin Gordon VS NO

Derrick Henry @ Indianapolis

Terry McLaurin @ Dallas: (Upgrade) McLaurin essentially is this Football Teams only wide out worth rostering and starting every week. Last week McLaurin underwhelmed a bit in a smash spot against the Bengals, but he did put up a solid double-digit fantasy day. This week should be another great matchup for McLaurin as he gets a Dallas defense that is very generous to the wide receiver. Back in week, seven when these two clubs met McLaurin had a seven-catch ninety-yard game in which he also found the end zone. This was with Antonio Gibson being heavily featured in the game as The Football Team was mopping the floor with Dallas. It should be noted that McLaurin missed practice Monday, nursing an ankle injury, but he should be good to go for the Turkey Day showdown with Dallas.

Other Upgrades at WR:

Jalen Reagor VS Seattle

Moore/Samuel/Anderson @ Minnesota

Nelson Agholor @ Atlanta

Devante Parker/Jakeem Grant @ NY Jets

AJ Brown @ Indianapolis: (Downgrade) It was just two short weeks ago when these teams last met on Thursday Night Football. It was a forgettable night for the second year wide out, as he was held to just 3.1 fantasy points (one catch for twenty-one yards). The Colts have been one of the most complete defenses this year, as they are tough on every level. Now the Packers did find moderate success through the air last week, but for most of the game, the passing game was held in check by this defense. Now Last week was a downgraded matchup for Brown as well, and he still came through, so it is possible he can this week as well, but on paper, we have to fade him.

Other Downgrades at WR:

SF WR’s @ La Rams

Davante Adams VS Chicago

Mims/Perrlman/Crowder VS Miami

Darren Waller @ Atlanta: (Upgrade) Waller has not only been one of if not Derek Carr’s favorite target again this year. Waller currently is the TE2 behind only Kelce as he is averaging a very healthy 14 fantasy points per game. This week he gets an Atlanta defense that has been very generous to the tight end position, as they allow an average of 62.2 yards per game to the position. The Falcons are also giving up the most touchdowns to the position (8) this season, so Waller not only is a matchup upgrade this week, but he is also our top ranked tight end for the week.

Other Upgrades at TE:

Austin Hooper @ Jacksonville

Eric Ebron VS Baltimore

Hunter Henry @ Buffalo

Jonnu Smith @ Indianapolis: (Downgrade) We promise we are not picking on Jonnu Smith; it is just he finds himself in yet another tough matchup this week against the Colts. As we highlighted above this defense is one of the most complete defenses there is in the league. In week ten when these teams last met Jonnu was held to two catches for fourteen yards. He did salvage his day by rushing for a one-yard touchdown. However, with the Titans continually using him in line to help block, coupled with the difficult matchup Smith just screams downgrade this week.

Other Downgrades at TE:

Higbee/Everett VS San Francisco

Jimmy Graham @ Green Bay

Jared Cook @ Denver
